Angeles Wound Care Institute (AWCI) is a division of Bend Plastic Surgery based in Bend, Oregon that provides specialized wound treatment and surgery services to patients from throughout the Pacific Northwest, including John Day, Burns, Klamath Falls, Newport, Lakeview, La Grande, and Pendleton.
Dr. Angeles is the Founder and Medical Director of Bend Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and the Angeles Wound Care Institute. Since starting his practice in 2005 in Bend, Oregon, he and his team have offered a full complement of modern, state-of-the-art surgical, and non-surgical procedures to patients in the Pacific Northwest.
Dr. Angeles was a Wound Healing Research Fellow in the Hunt Wound Healing Laboratory at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine where he studied wound cellular mechanisms of neovascularization, growth factor influence on wound healing, effects of hyperbaric oxygen on wound healing and its cellular mechanism of action.
Dr. Angeles lived in the Netherlands where he performed research on artificial skin substitutes and wound healing in burn patients. This extensive background in wound healing research led to the Medical Directorship at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend at the Wound and Ostomy Care Center, the largest wound care center in Oregon, where he led a multidisciplinary team of skilled healthcare providers in providing critical wound care services and limb preservation.
Given his extensive background in wound healing research and training in reconstruction, Dr. Angeles uses some of the most sophisticated surgical and non- surgical techniques to help those with severe chronic wounds, burns, radiation injuries, cancer wounds and traumatic injuries with an emphasis on limb preservation and wound care. He utilizes a multimodal, approach to wound healing, including optimization of nutritional parameters, control of biofilms and bacterial proliferation, utilization of hyperbaric oxygen therapy, optimization of periwound blood flow, management of venous insufficiency and the use of growth factors, Platelet Rich Plasma, and stem cells for the treatment of chronic wounds.
Dr. Angeles continues to travel throughout the United States and the world attending conferences and symposiums that further his knowledge and skills specifically in wound healing and other areas of reconstructive plastic surgery. He has taught at several internationally renowned universities and his published work can be found in numerous medical journals. He continues to lecture throughout the U.S. and internationally and places an emphasis on education and mentorship.
